According to the data, the percentage of illiterates is 36.4 for Hindus, 32.5 for Sikhs, 28.2 for Buddhists and 25.6 for Christians.
At 42.7 per cent, Muslims have the highest percentage of illiterates, while Jains, at 86.4 per cent, have the highest percentage of literates, according to Census 2011 data on education level by religious community and gender released Wednesday.
