The “poor” results of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET),which were declared last week, have raised many an eyebrow in the city’s education circles. Only 14 per cent of the candidates, who appeared for the test, have qualified.

The CTET was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for recruitment of teachers in schools,as per directives issued by the Human Resource Ministry. Of the 7,15,050 candidates who appeared for the exam across the country, only 97,919 qualified — which amounts to a measly pass percentage of 13.694. A total of 7,94,080 candidates had registered for the first-ever CTET. The exam was held on June 26 in as many as 1,178 centres in 81 cities across the country, and two cities overseas.
